Why is it So Important to Work on Yourself First?
Why is So Important to Work on Yourself First?
The first step that I walk couples through often involves getting the husband to work on the husband and the wife to work on the wife. Though there are a number of reasons why this is a must in a troubled marriage, one of the reasons is as follows:
By working on yourself, you are building up your bank account of credibility so that when you do confront issues concerning your marriage and the other person, it is not perceived to be just another act of retaliation or unkindness.
I often say that husbands and wives make really bad marriage counselors and coaches of one another. One of the reasons for this is because even if you are sharing good information with the other person, they either filter that info. through their hurt feelings or they feel that you have something in it for yourself. By taking a few steps back and working on yourself for a while, you are making deposits into your bank account of respect and credibility that you will often need to draw from at a later time. Nevertheless, if you do not take the time to work on yourself, your bank account will simply continue to run in the negative, and you will find it difficult to score any valid points in a discussion.
To start learning how to work on yourself and build up your bank account of credibility, I would recommend that you take a look at our Audio Cd Series called How to Break the Cycle of Resentment and Anger in a Marriage. For more information about this Cd Series, Click Here.
