Marriage is More than a Paycheck (Christian Advice for Husbands)
Some men, though very sincere, feel that they are loving their wives because of their role in paying the bills and providing for the home. Although these men should be complimented for their hard work, they should understand that few women will be satisfied with money and material assets alone.
In Ecclesiastes 5:10, Solomon said:
“He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver . . .”
I find that many men in the above mentioned scenario feel that their wives are unthankful because they want more than just their husband’s paycheck. To put it plainly, these women are not unthankful as much as they are just human beings. That is, Solomon was pointing out that money and material assets alone do very little to bring inner satisfaction to both men and women alike. In fact, what most women really want is to know that they are not in competition with their husband’s job, career, hobbies, and other personal pursuits. Furthermore, they do not even want to feel like they are in the same race as those other things.
At the end of the day, a man must realize that paying the bills is just a small piece of the pie. His job is not to just pay the bills, but to place his wife on a pedestal that makes her feel like her husband’s personal hobbies and pursuits are on the same level as a footstool in comparison to her.
