Male-Female Relationships and the Workplace – What is Appropriate?
Question:
“Is it appropriate for a married man to address his women co-workers or any other woman as ‘Honey’?”
Answer:
Here’s the rule:
If someone is not having fun, then no one is having fun. In other words, this man, I’m assuming it is your husband, may just use the word in a totally neutral manner, but if you or other women are offended by the familiarity of the term, then it is off-limits. It really is that simple.
From my standpoint, I do not like to use such terms on anyone except for my wife and children. In a day when sexual temptation and work place affairs are rampant, it is best not to speak in such familiar terms when speaking to members of the opposite sex. Plus, someone, at some time or another, will feel this is edgy. So, in my mind, leave it out (Ephesians 4:29).
