Are You Fighting for Your Marriage?
Are You Fighting for Your Marriage? – by Christian Marriage / Youth Speaker, Dr. Raymond Force
One of my favorite statements to make to couples in need is that I have the same motives that they have had in their marriage, but just a different method. In other words, many couples fight because they want legitimate change in their spouse and their marriage, but they often fight with weapons that cause more harm than good.
Many couples use weapons like anger, sarcasm, and guilt to win their marital battles, but it must be understood that the scriptures teach another way. In fact, let’s remember that Song of Solomon 8:7 says:
“Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it . . .”
In short, the Bible is speaking of the power of true, Biblical love, and, in my view, I have found that fighting for your marriage using Biblical love is much more powerful than using weapons that are negative in nature.
Our 2-Step process encourages couples to fight for their marriage, but just in a different manner. I actually encourage couples to take the same energy that they are using to wield the weapons of anger and put it to some good use by picking God’s prescribed weapon of sacrificial love.
In conclusion, if you want to fight for your marriage, then I say fight, but there is a way to fight for your marriage without fighting with one another. There is a way to use weapons that form win-win situations and leave you in your right mind and with a clear conscience at the end of the day.
