Anger and Selfishness – They Go Hand in Hand
Anger and Selishness – They Go Hand in Hand in a Marriage – by Dr. Raymond Force
In our book, Angry Without a Cause, I talk about how many people have a difficult time with anger because they are supremely focused on themselves. To tell the truth, many people have such a tight grip on their own personal pursuits and wants that they find it difficult to lend a hand to others in the home without getting frustrated.
Think about it. How often do people get frustrated because they are not able to serve others? How many times have you been frustrated because you are not able to sacrifice for the needs of others? Though it does happen in some instances, we are typically upset because someone has trespassed upon our own territory of happiness and comfort.
I often tell people that when it comes to solving marriage problems there are a thousand ways that couples find a way to get to the south pole of strife. However, the best way to make sure that you are not heading toward the south pole strife is to start heading toward the north pole of love and forgiveness.
In like manner, when it comes to dealing with anger in a marriage, the best way to avoid scenarios where anger becomes the ruling emotion is to make love the ruling principle of every situation. As a matter of fact, this is the driving force behind our 2-Step process to solving marriage problems. That is, our 2-Step Process encourages people to head off toward the north pole of true, Biblical love, and, by virtue of heading toward that pole, they often stay away from areas where anger, bitterness, self-centeredness, and resentment made their abode.
